Occult Detectives have been saving us from the ghouls and ghosts of the world for a number of years. You’ll know of some of these heroes of our darkest nights; for instance, Dr. Van Helsing who saved us from Count Dracula. These brave souls have tracked down and combated the evils that have invaded our placid everyday worlds with the intent of causing both physical and psychic destruction.
We have spent much of this October – Month of Horror bringing to light the cases of some of these great unsung heroes.
Dr. Jules de Grandin
We’ve mentioned the great Dr. Jules de Grandin before, the little Frenchman whose casebook runs to over ninety separate recorded cases. Dr. de Grandin and his good friend Dr. Trowbridge have faced vampires, demons, ghosts, ancient curses, and ghouls, and so much more. Dr. de Grandin was a giant among Occult Detectives.

Moris Klaw the Dream Detective
This month we also brought out of the darkness some of the cases of the inimitable Moris Klaw. Klaw, known as the Dream Detective, was an unkempt shabby bear of a man. And as shabby as he was, Klaw’s daughter Isis was the opposite. Beautiful, chic, wearing the latest of Parisian fashions, Isis was absolutely devoted to her father.
When Klaw determined to get to the bottom of a problem, he would have Isis lay out his specially prepared pillow at the scene of the crime and he would sleep on it. Through his dreams he would open himself to the Odic forces and essentially witness the crime.

Carnacki the Ghost Finder
We have also been fortunate enough bring to you some of the cases of Carnacki the Ghost Finder. Upon occasion, Thomas Carnacki would invite several of his friends for dinner. After dinner they would settle into their chairs and he would recount some particularly interesting case. While several of his cases involved people attempting to use the facade of the supernatural to effect a crime, others were most definitely occult manifestations. It was in these instances that Carnacki’s neon pentacle came into very necessary use.

Sir Donald Fremling
Sir Donald Fremling was a kindly old gentleman who in his later years was wont to give lectures on such abstruse subjects as “Devil Worship and Ancient Rites among the Nomadic Tribes of Central Asia.” As such he was uniquely informed to deal with various cases of the invasions of occult forces into our world. Unfortunately only three of these cases have been recorded. Who knows what other horrific adventures might he have had?

Ascott Keane
Ascott Keane is perhaps less well recognized than some other Occult Detectives. That of course is because he devoted his life and career entirely to thwarting the evil plans of that arch nemesis of humanity, Doctor Satan.
Doctor Satan, an enormously wealthy man, tired of all the thrills that money can buy, turned to crime and became a cold-blooded monster. He employed both scientific and occult knowledge to commit fiendish and sinister acts of evil, and spectacularly gruesome murders.
Ascott Keane, strangest of detectives, with an equal knowledge of science and the occult, battled against him to save society, in fact the whole world from Satan’s evil. True to goodness and humanity, Ascott Keane even pursued Doctor Satan into the Afterlife.

There have been a number of other Occult Detectives who have saved us in perilous times from perilous dangers. We will wrap up this October – Month of Horror with the cases of John Silence, Physician Extraordinary.

Don’t be fooled into thinking these are the only Occult Detectives. There have been many who have answered the call to save us in our blackest times. We’ll bring to light more of their casebooks as we go on.

Thank you for your blog. Much thanks again. Really Cool.
